BIFOLD is one of six AI research competence centers in Germany, permanently funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Together, these centers form the core of Germany’s AI research ecosystem, fostering a network for the exchange of expertise and research outcomes.
We are seeking an Employee in Information and Communication Technology (f/m/x) for the research groups Management of Data Science Processes ( https://deem.berlin ) and Information Integration and Data Preparation ( https://www.tu.berlin/d2ip ).
The D2IP group conducts fundamental and applied research in data integration, preprocessing, and data science.
The DEEM group focuses on foundational research at the intersection of data management and machine learning, addressing data-related challenges in ML applications with significant economic, societal, or scientific impact.
Tasks
- Independent planning, design, creation, procurement, implementation, administration, and further development of a specialized data and analytics infrastructure for managing big data under the Linux operating system
- Independent analysis and selection of hardware and software tailored to project goals.
- Autonomous configuration, troubleshooting, monitoring, maintenance, and enhancement of existing servers running Linux
- Self-reliant configuration, troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintenance of desktop workstations, peripherals, and presentation technology, including required servicing
- Support for teaching in both research groups, including independent installation and administration of databases, web servers, web applications, version control systems, and access management for faculty and students
Requirements
- A relevant university degree (Bachelor or FH-Diplom) e.g. in the field of computer science or comparable with significant practical experience, or equivalent qualifications and experience leading to comparable activities
- Specialized expertise in designing, procuring, and administering large computing clusters for data analysis
- Experience in creating technical specifications and conducting procurement processes
- Excellent proficiency in English or German is required, with a willingness to acquire the missing language skills
Desirable:
- Desirable qualities include strong technical understanding, quality awareness, creativity, willingness to learn, and a service-oriented, friendly working approach
- Advantageous: Experience in IT support for externally funded projects
