Tasks
Based on the donation of an industry partner, this project will study and prototypically implement mechanisms for increasing efficiency of serverless computing platforms. In particular, the project will study unikernel-based runtimes, strategic placement of functions, function fusion, and request queueing with the goal of improving memory efficiency and shaving off load peaks. Tasks in this position include among others: software prototyping, experimenting with large-scale software systems, publishing and presenting research results.
Requirements
- Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science of closely related subject with very good grades
- English C1 level or equivalent and willingness to learn German if not already available. Knowledge of German is beneficial
- In-depth knowledge and experience with distributed software systems and Docker
- Excellent programming skills in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Kotlin, Go, C++
Desirable:
Beyond these experience with serverless computing platforms (particularly Knative), Kubernetes, unikernels, and OS-level programming as well as advanced German skills
