Student assistant (40 hours per month)

Tasks

We are looking for two student workers to support research activities and everyday project work at the department. The scope of the positions to be filled relates to project tasks within the European research and innovation project "ENERGICA"(https://www.tu.berlin/en/ceacc/research/projects).
Our research and project work focuses on systemic, economic and societal considerations of Community Energy, Renewable Energy Transformations and Adaptation to Climate Change. Through critical analysis and an interdisciplinary team of engineers, economists and social scientists, we investigate impactful and sustainable concepts depending on the local needs, priorities and resources.

Supporting activities under supervision in the following tasks:

  • Further development of a holistic evaluation framework and tool to record the impact of energy projects on the local population based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (40%)
  • A comprehensive compilation and analysis of the status quo of policies and regulations in selected remote contexts, aiming at the development of strategies for sustainable, community-based energy transitions, while considering, among others, the replication potential and scalability of project solutions (40%)
  • Working independently on tasks that are discussed and coordinated in regular meetings. This work includes literature research and data analysis. (20%)

Requirements

Must:

  • Basic knowledge of the main research areas of the department, including access to energy and energy transitions in the Global South; community-based energy systems in remote contexts, holistic approaches in research
  • Very good knowledge of English both written and spoken
  • First experience with qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Good PC skills and confident use of the MS Office package
    Can:
  • Conceptual thinking, curiosity, willingness to work independently
  • Good knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Interest in or prior knowledge of climate justice, climate change adaptation, community energy
  • Good knowledge of German both written and spoken; knowledge of another language such as, French, Spanish, Portuguese or Maltese
  • Independent working, communication and teamwork skills
